Selectmen Urged to Expediate South Shore Road Repairs
A member of the public came before the board on Monday.

A member of the public urged the Board of Selectmen to complete this year repairs to South Shore Road slated for 2020—a request the board agreed to consider.
“The road has been reduced to gravel. The erosion is so bad it’s eating away at our driveways,” said Mike Pucci of 43 South Shore Road, who has been asking the Selectmen to expedite the road repairs for the last five years. “There are portions where, when it rains, you can’t even see the road.”
Pucci warned delaying repairs could create traffic safety issues.

“If the shoulder erodes away any more than it has, there won’t be enough room for two cars to pass one another,” he said during the board’s Monday evening meeting. “I’d be willing to give 10 feet of my land to improve the road.”
Chair Everett McBride said he has heard concern from other residents regarding the need for repairs to South Shore Road and asked Town Manager Keith Hickey if there’s anything the board can do to complete the improvements in the near future.

Hickey said if there’s any money left over for road improvements, it could be allocated for South Shore repairs this year.
“If we have to move some roads around to get that road done, I know this board will consider it,” Vice Chair Patrick Hargreaves said.
