‘Short Man' Used Loaded Hypodermic Needle To Rob Tanning Salon

Police in Salem are asking for the public's help identifying a man who robbed a business last night.

SALEM, NH — Police in Salem are asking for help identifying a man who allegedly robbed a tanning salon, using a loaded needle as a weapon. Officers were sent to Modern Tan on 280 Main St. in Salem at around 7:30 p.m. on March 30, 2018, for a report of a robbery. The victim – a female employee – stated that an unknown man entered the business and demanded money.

After an altercation – with the employee attempting to stop the man, according to Lt. Joseph Keating of the Salem Police Department – the suspect pushed the employee several times, gained access to the cash register, and stole an unknown amount of money.

“Throughout the event, the suspect brandished a hypodermic needle, filled with an unknown substance as a weapon,” Keating alleged. “After obtaining the money, the suspect fled the business on foot, running toward Lawrence Road.”

A perimeter was established after police arrived and the department’s K-9 unit was sent in and was able to pick up a scent and tracked the suspect to a nearby parking lot. Investigators believe that the suspect had a vehicle waiting at the scene.

The suspect was described as short, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with broad shoulders. He was wearing a black hoodie with red writing on the shoulder, a white baseball cap, and Under Armor sweatpants.
