Speed, Alcohol Might Be Factors in Salem Crash Incident
Police: Motorcyclists were seriously injured on Friday after one rider reportedly drove into the opposite lane, struck a pickup truck.

Two motorcyclists were seriously injured last night after a crash on Lawrence Road, according to Salem Police.
According to a report from Deputy Chief Shawn Patten, at around 9 p.m. on June 12, 2015, near the Mary Queen of Peace Church, two motorcyclists were driving north on Lawrence Road while a pickup truck was driving south. One of the motorcyclists “crossed the centerline into the southbound lane” and reportedly struck the pickup. The second motorcyclist, who was traveling behind the one that drove into the opposite lane, dumped his bike into the pavement.
Both motorcyclists received “serious leg injuries” and were transported to Lawrence General Hospital. The motorcyclist who drove into the pickup truck was later medflighted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

“The Salem Police Traffic Accident Reconstruction team was called to the scene and continues to investigate the crash,” according to Patten. “It appears that alcohol and speed may have been a contributing factor.”
