Stand Up Salem warns, "buyers beware" as they launch their presence this past Friday afternoon.

Stand Up Salem, coalition for a drug-free Salem, mobilizes a message of alcohol awareness and responsibility that they hope will 'stick'.

Along with a group of about 20 Salem high school-aged youth, Stand Up Salem went out into the community and labeled 'buyer beware' stickers on packages of alcohol at local retailers. At the beginning of a very busy holiday weekend for our local stores, Stand Up Salem announced their presence as a newly formed coalition and simultaneously placed over a thousand warnings to store clerks and consumers. It is a reminder to be responsible in front of our Salem youth who are learning behaviors from what they see around them and also to control what our minors have access to at home.

Stand Up Salem exists to save lives and create a better community for our families. Our coalition is made up of over 100 caring citizens who live and/or work in Salem. Together we are striving to bring awareness to drug and alcohol issues, create positive change and effectively reduce all substance misuse. Through sponsored programs and activities, we will respectively advocate for Prevention, Intervention, Treatment and Recovery in our local Salem community.

Thank you to our youth leaders who volunteered their time to be an example of clean, healthy living. Thank you to the local Salem retailers who voluntarily partnered with us to show their support of our community; Shaw's Market, Kev's Country Store, McKinnon's Market, Circle K-Irving Gas, Mobil Gas Station, Speedway, Seven Eleven Store, Market Basket, Red Barn Discount Beverages, State Liquor & Wine Outlet and Stateline Paysaver. Together we can change the culture of substance misuse and protect our youth from the disease of addiction.
