SALEM, NH — Are you registered to vote?

If not, stop by the municipal office building on Aug. 28.

The Supervisors of the Checklist of Salem will meet from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, on the lower level of the Municipal Office Building to register new voters for the state primary. Residents of Salem who will be 18 years of age by Sept. 10, may register to vote at this session with acceptable documentation. New Hampshire election law does however, allow a person to register to vote at the polls if they present required documentation. A picture ID and proof of domicile is required. (A driver’s license is acceptable.) Naturalized citizens must show a passport or documented citizenship papers. Residents may also register to vote with the town clerk at any time during regular office hours through Aug. 28.

Voters who are already registered in a party may not change their affiliation at this session (RSA 654:33) and must take the ballot of the party they are registered in on Primary Day. Undeclared voters may choose a party to vote in and then switch back to an undeclared status after they vote. Supervisors will be available for this at a table near the exit of the polling place.

The law requires that voters cast their ballots at the polling area where they are listed on the checklist, so it is advisable to make an address change beforehand at either the Municipal Office Building or at the session of the Supervisors on Aug. 28, if polling location different from the one listed on the checklist, they may be asked to go to their original polling place.
