Salem’s Water Treatment Facility is currently experiencing higher-than-normal color in its finished water.
We believe this is due to several factors but mostly the amount of rainfall causing more than normal runoff into the reservoir.

As a result, staff has initiated more frequent filter flushes and have seen much improvement. We have begun flushing hydrants in strategic areas of the distribution system with the intent of moving more treated water into the neighborhoods served by Municipal water.
Thank you for your patience and understand that we are working hard to resolve this issue and although the water was not aesthetically pleasing, at no time during this event did any water samples exceed safe drinking water standards.
