UPDATE: SUV, Motorcycle Collided on North Main Street

Motorcyclists and passenger sustained injuries after teen driving SUV and motorcycle collide; police are still investigation the crash.

Here’s an update from Salem Police about the accident yesterday afternoon on North Main Street:

On Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at approximately 1648 hours, Salem Officers responded to the intersection of N. Main St. and Glen Rd. for a motor vehicle accident, involving a motorcycle and an SUV. Upon arrival, officers determined the SUV was making a left hand turn into Glen Rd. from N. Main St. and the motorcycle was traveling southbound past Glen Rd., when the two collided. The SUV was operated by a 16-year-old male and the motorcycle was operated by a 50-year-old male, who also had a 34-year-old female passenger on the back.

The 16 y/o male did not suffer any injuries and the female passenger of the motorcycle suffered non-life threatening injuries. The male operator of the motorcycle suffered serious leg injuries and internal trauma. He was initially transported to Lawrence General Hospital, but later transported to Boston by Med-Flight. The full extent of his injuries are unknown at this time, as he is still being treated.

The Salem Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (TAR) was activated and the roadway on either side of the accident was shut down for a few hours, while members of the team processed the scene. The roadway has since been re-opened to regular traffic and the investigation is ongoing.
