VIDEO: Candidates Speak at Scholarship Event

Democrats Kuster, Cilley, Hassan, others appear at Fran Brennan Memorial Scholarship Breakfast.

Several Democratic candidates for New Hampshire offices spoke at Saturday's Fran Brennan Memorial Scholarship Breakfast at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem Saturday morning, highlighting what they believe is a turning tide in state politics.

"People who care about their state are turning out to figure out what it is they can do in their communities to move our state forward," said former state Sen. Maggie Hassan of Exeter, who is running for governor.

In addition to Hassan, her fellow Democratic candidate for governor, former state Sen. Jackie Cilley of Barrington, was in attendance, as well as 2nd District candidate Ann McLane Kuster of Hopkinton, 1st District candidate Carol Shea-Porter of Rochester and former 1st District candidate Joanne Dowdell of Portsmouth.

The candidates took the opportunity to go after Republican policies, both nationally and locally. Watch the video above to see what they said.

The $500 Fran Brennan Memorial Scholarship was awarded by the Salem Town Democratic Committee to Salem High School senior Jenny Zhang. She read her winning essay, which was on the topic of the role of government.
