Sanbornized contracts are back on the School District ballot this March 11th. Again I am vehemently opposing them on principle. It has nothing to do with money. In Sanbornized contracts a simple majority of the voters approve or defeat articles that obligate future School District Meetings to fund. Normally, and rightly so, to impose costs on future School District Meetings, the margin must be a supermajority of either 60% or 2/3rds. A Sanbornized contract is essentially the same thing as a three-year bond article which would require a supermajority. Our Republican form of government is based on the rule of law. That means that there are rights that should not be taken away by a simple majority. Or as Thomas Jefferson put it “Democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”
Vote no on school articles 4,5,7 and 8
