Voters In Salem Approve $49M Woodbury Middle School Renovations

Salem voters approve town and school operating budgets as well as most of the 2020 ballot questions.

SALEM, NH — Voters in Salem only had a few competitive races and also approved nearly all of the town's questions and budget line items, too. Voters approved a $52.5 million town operating budget and a $76.2 million school budget. Voters also approved a $49 million renovation and improvement project for the Woodbury Middle School by a vote of 3,226 to 1,237.

Martha Breen was easily elected tax collector for the town with 2,362 votes. Stephen Boyd placed second and Kerry Keenan third. There were nine write-in votes.

Beverly Donovan and Joseph Feole were elected to two three-year planning board seats with Robert Gibbs, an incumbent, placing third.

Bernard Campbell, and Claire Karibian easily won two three-year zoning board of adjustment seats. Thomas Raskow Jr. placed third while John Manning placed fourth.

Voters approved most of the town's articles.

Article 20, a proposal to remove conservation land designation from portions of town, was rejected by 15 votes. Article 22, a proposal to change the tax collector's position from an elected to an appointed position, was also rejected — by more than 820 votes. Voters also approved sports betting in town by a vote of 2,877 and 1,554.

The full results will be posted by the town clerk on the town's website soon.
