Woodbury Middle School Athletes

Congratulations to the Woodbury Middle School Cheerleaders and Coach Whitney Halloran on their success!

The season began with very competitive tryouts where coach, Whitney Halloran, carefully selected her team of 23 athletes. Coach Halloran has been coaching the middle school team for 7 years; taking it over at a time when the school didn’t have a competition team. Whitney has been successful in building the strength in the sport which has been a great feeder program to Salem High School where she is the assistant coach for the varsity team.

The Woodbury Warriors went into the final practices before competition with many unusual hurdles. The team had sustained multiple injuries which led to two strong athletes having to pull themselves for the remainder of the season. This focused and determined group of athletes with the support and knowledge of their coach revamped their choreography just before their first competition. WMS being Division 1 competed against some teams that practice year-round yet managed to place at every competition. Tri- County, Astro Blast and States were challenging but this tenacious team believed in themselves and they were unstoppable.

The team captains: Gabrielle Driggers, Tori Chance and Jouri Smith along with eight other athletes will be moving on to Salem High School next year. There will be some incredible talent heading to the high school team!

“We are not a team because we work together, we ARE a team because we respect, trust and care for each other.” Coach Halloran should be very proud of what she has created with her leadership. A great coach changes lives!
