Adult Auditions for classic play, Amadeus!

NH Theatre Factory is auditioning for Peter Shaffer's provocative play Amadeus, the life story of Mozart, told by his secret rival, Salieri.

After three years of successful operation, the NH Theatre Factory, mostly known for its thriving youth education program, is producing its next big adult main stage production, Amadeus. “This will be our second adult production, and our first adult drama,” remarks Artistic Director Joel Mercier, “and we have decided to tackle this wonderful play from which the well-known 1983 movie was based.” The NH Theatre Factory produced an original musical titled Ghost Hunting back in 2013, but since has focused primarily on its Stage Setter’s Youth Program and New Works Development. This will be its first commercial play featuring an adult company. “Amadeus has not been performed very much by adult companies in NH,” says Mercier, “and I think it’s because it’s a very intimidating piece. The story takes place as a flashback, alternative between two time periods, there are extravagant period costumes and wigs, and even music integrated throughout, some of which we plan to have performed live! This is not an easy play, however, it’s an amazing play and will be a wonderfully rewarding process.”

Amadeus is the incredible story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, told by his peer and secret rival Antonio Salieri, the court composer for the Emperor of Austria. Jealous of Mozart’s genius and resentful of his own mediocrity, Salieri secretly rejects God and vows to destroy his rival’s career in this exploration of human traits, both good and bad, that creates the world’s finest art. This provocative work weaves a confrontation between mediocrity and genius into a tale of breathtaking dramatic power. Auditions have been set for Sunday, March 13th at 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Jefferson Mill Building at 670 North Commercial Street. Actors, ages 18 and up, are encouraged to audition regardless of experience. Rehearsals begin in Manchester on Sunday, April 17 and the performances will take place at the Derry Opera House on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4. “This is going to be a very special experience of a seldom done show and we could not be more excited to re-start our adult main stage branch with this piece,” finishes Mercier.
