Correctional Officer from Windham to be Honored

Windham's own Steven Batchelder will receive recognition.

A correctional officer and Windham resident is set to be named Superior Officer of the Year for the town of Billerica, Mass. at a ceremony on May 9.

The recognition will go to Capt. Steven Batchelder for his work at Middlesex House of Correction.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. and take place at the Middlesex Sheriff's Office Training Academy, located on 793 Boston Road in Billerica.

Batchelder is one of seven Massachusetts officers receiving honors at the event. Of the seven, he is the only one receiving an award who lives in New Hampshire.

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian will present the awards a part of National Correctional Officers Week.

Giving the keynote address at the ceremony will be Capt. Robert Bonham of the U.S. Army.

Also being recognized with the same award for the city of Cambridge will be Deputy Daniel J. Finn, who works at Middlesex Jail and is from Danvers, Mass. Two correctional officers, Shannon Anderson of Dorchester, Mass. and Nicholas Gianino of Tewksbury, Mass. will also receive "Officer of the Year" recognition. Deputy Paul Meehan of Tyngsboro, Mass., Officer Buntha Kieng of Lowell, Mass. and Officer Todd Courtemanche of Dracut, Mass. will all receive Deputy Sherif Awards.

Other employees from the Middlesex Sheriff's Office will be honored at the ceremony.
