Firsthand Account of the 'Loud Bang' That Prompted WHS Lockdown

This is a firsthand account of what the day was like on December 17th at Windham High School.

Monday, December 17th was a very odd day for Windham High School overall.

After having a 90 minute delay due to snow, we entered the building and went to our first period classes. After switiching to the second period, we all went through the hallways and within the centeral lobby, a loud bang that sounded very similar to a gunshot, sparked lots of confusion and fear within the student body.

"Get into any classroom!," The teachers yelled as they grabbed students and made sure they were in a locked room. There we were sitting in the classrooms for approixmately 30 mintues, trying to find out what was really going on in the hallways.

Like all of those who were involved, I am still unsure about what the sound really was, but it truly instilled fear into the student body and faculty as a whole.

When police came through and gave us the okay to stop the lockdown, we proceeded with our regular day searching to find out what caused this fear and unawareness.

I have to thank all of the staff of the school for being so helpful during this time and making sure everyone was locked in a classroom safely, and the police for being on alert and checking the school's security system.
