One Day My Soul Awoke

Throughout our lives we are faced with the challenge to find out who we are as an individual, today I wish to challenge you all to think deeper than the actual surface of the essential question.

Hello bloggers, I have to start off by thanking all of the Windham community for all your positive comments and remarks about my blog.

The responses from all of you were so overwhelming and I knew once my radio show ended which had 10,000 listeners, I was to come back here and blog. My story starts as a young freshman in a school that was not familiar to me or the other people within the school.

At this time, I was faced with the challenge that we all are as we get closer to becoming an independent adult, who am I? This question lingered in my mind time after time and almost every time I tried fitting a stereotype I thought best portrayed what I thought was me. In all actuality, we are all individuals who are so complex and diverse that simply grouping and fitting lots of people into a category seems impossible, but society tells us this is how it should be and we then follow.

Once I learned that breaking the barriers of a stereotype were very important, I then looked for the qualities in a person that made them different and boy did it change everything!! Instead of asking myself who am I, I dug much deeper and asked myself who am I on a soul level and I came up with a simple mantra that I follow daily, "I am a doer of good deeds."

In other words, I try to perform good deeds even the simplest of ways. For example, I let people pass me on the road when I'm aware and if we all made an effort to ask ourselves who we are on a spiritual level, would the world be a less hostile place?
