Our Windham School Board Action Banning Dodgeball - Escalated to National Headlines

National and International news outlets are running with the story about outlawing dodgeball in school. As a result, our town is now a National laughing-stock.

In the last several days, regional and national news outlets have been running with an AP article about our town's banning of dodgeball in public schools.  As they all generally describe the rationale, I.E. 'the Human Target' argument, they raise the issue of whether or not town government imposed itself too far into a child's normal activity.

Also from an opinion perspective, several news outlets used this story to highlight one of many examples of government over-reaching their powers to negatively impact the citizens it represents.  In fact several stories call out this action and affect on innocent children as another example of a 'Nanny State' philosophy of governance .

I've read tens of articles on this and received even more articles from friends on Facebook and twitter around the country.  Unfortunately the feedback is that Windham is truly singled out as a microcosym of what is wrong with today's progressive governance.

I am personally embarrased as a Windhamite and for the 4 School board members who pushed this ruling down everyone's throat.  Story after story excoriating the town for it's overreach in eliminating a simple game of dodgeball which has been played for generations and generations.  Shameful and truly expected outrage from parents abroad.

If we were able to summarize the posts submitted to the Windham Patch, they are essentially voicing the same concerns....And in some posts, drawing parallels in how this issue was handled compared to the trainwreck we called School Warrant Article #2.

I ask that the WSB trash the ruling and focus on real educational matters, including building voter confidence (which after this latest bruhaha, hovers at 'No Confidence').  We can use less negative press and I could use one less phone call from family and friends laughing about the town I love so much........
