Discussions About Allegations Not Part of Agenda

Report from School Board meeting on April 7, 2015.

Windham LINK was part of a large crowd of community members who attended the Windham School Board Meeting on Monday, April 7, 2015.

It was expected that the School Board would share the opinion of School District legal counsel regarding the allegations that Ken Eyring released confidential information to Mount Vernon State Representative William β€œBill” O’Brien.

During public comment, residents encouraged the Board to update the public on what had transpired during the β€œnon-meeting” that took place prior to the public School Board meeting.

Specifically, residents wanted to know:

  • Why an update was not included as an agenda item?
  • What was the legal opinion of the lawyer?
  • When will the public be notified regarding the opinion?
  • Will the Board have their discussion in public following the next non-meeting with legal, as is required by law?
  • Were the documents referenced in the allegations deemed β€œconfidential” and would they be made public?

School Board Vice-Chair Tom Murray informed the public that the meeting with legal counsel would continue on April 21, 2015. It was stated that it is the full intent of the School Board to make the documents public.

Also at the meeting, the Superintendent recommended that the School Board accept the nomination of Bob Dawson as the next Principal of Windham High School. The Board did not discuss the nomination during the meeting and gave no indication of whether or not they accepted the nomination. Mr. Dawson is currently the Assistant Principal at the High School.

We encourage residents to contact the School Board with any comments or concerns and/or attend next School Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 7 PM.
