Drug Collection Day Returns to Windham

The DEA is sponsoring its biannual event.

The biannual Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, April 28 and once again the Windham Police Department will be participating in the efforts.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents are being urged by Windham police to check their medicine cabinets for any expired or unwanted medications and to drop them off in sealed plastic bags.

"This is a safe way to limit access to controlled drugs in the home and a sfae method of disposing of these medications without risk to the environment," said a release from WPD.

While the event is twice a year, the department announced in March that it had installed a permanent drop box to allow for drugs to be dropped off anytime.

That box was obtained free of charge through a partnership with the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.

At the time of the acquisition, Windham became the third town in the state to have a permanent box installed. The upgrade took place because of the success of the drug take back last October, which brought in 134 pounds of prescription medications.
