F.L.O.W. Award Annual Scholarships
Two students were recognized at the annual Strawberry Festival.

Jake Simard and Jillian Sciuto were recognized this past Saturday by the Friends of the Library of Windham (F.L.O.W.). Amidst the energy of F.L.O.W.’s annual Strawberry Festival, Jake Simard was awarded this year’s F.L.O.W. Mary Long Arts Scholarship and Jillian Sciuto, the F.L.O.W. Scholarship.
Jake Simard is a leader in the classroom and in our community and has been very busy during the past 4 years of his high school career. Jake has been involved in 21 theater productions to date. He has been a member of Windham High School's A Cappella Group and has participated in a number of selective choral festivals including attending New Hampshire All State and Jazz All State Festivals as well as attending the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. Jake is a member of the Windham Chapters of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and is the president of the Math Honor Society and the National Honor Society. Jake also just finished the construction of his Eagle Scout Project. In addition to his many extracurricular activities, Jake has excelled in the classroom with a very impressive GPA. In the fall, Jake will begin his double major in theater and physics at New York University’s Tisch School of the arts.

This fall, Jillian Sciuto will be pursuing a degree in nursing from Rivier College. Jillian has been an active and dedicated volunteer. She has spent many hours volunteering at Windham Terrace, and at a special services pre-school. Over the summer of 2011, Jillian shared 45 hours of her time involved in the Elliot Hospital Volunteer Program. In 2012, Jillian was awarded with the Prudential Presidential Service Recognition Award as she has served 120 hours of community service. Jillian was a student helper when she took karate. She provided childcare over three years. Jillian has served two terms as the French Honor Society President in which one of her duties included tutoring students in French. All the while, she maintained a high GPA, and still found time to come to the Nesmith Library to sort books and help with book sales for the Friends of the Library of Windham.
The F.L.O.W. scholarships, both in the amount of $4,000, are awarded to a high school senior who is a Windham resident. Requirements include a minimum 3.0 grade point average and three letters of reference. Applicants for the F.L.O.W. Annual Scholarship may pursue any college degree program. Applicants for the F.L.O.W. Mary Long Arts Scholarship must be pursuing one of the following degree programs: Art, Dance, Drama/Theatre, Music, Creative Writing, Communications, Broadcast Journalism, History, Art History, Architecture, Museum Studies, Art Conservation, Film or Graphic Arts.
