14-Year-Old Boy Killed in I-93 Crash

A 14-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a car on Interstate 93 in Londonderry on Wednesday.

Around 4:30 p.m., state police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on I-93 northbound between exits 4 and 5. State troopers arrived at the scene and determined that a boy had exited a vehicle that had stopped in the emergency breakdown lane on I-93 north, and was then struck by another vehicle headed northbound.

According to Thursday's Londonderry police log, the boy's mother told police she and her son were arguing when he exited the vehicle, ran into the woods, and then ran back into the road and was hit by a vehicle.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. A medical helicopter was initially called in, but was later cancelled once it was determined that the boy had no pulse.

No one else was injured in the crash.

State police identified the driver of the vehicle that hit the boy as Griffin George, 28, of Derry. At this time, state police said no criminal charges are anticipated.

I-93 north was shut down for about 90 minutes as the accident was investigated, causing major backups on the busy highway. Traffic was rerouted off of I-93 until one lane of travel was able to be reopened around 6 p.m.

The New Hampshire State Police Technical Accident Reconstruction Unit and Londonderry Police and Fire assisted at the accident scene.
