First Carol Yennaco Scholarship Awarded

Windham High School senior Natalya Tausanovitch received the honor.

The Windham Women's Business Connection was looking for a positive, innovative female student for the first Carol Yennaco Memorial Scholarship.

In the end, Windham High School senior Natalya Tausanovitch fit the billing quite well.

Tausanovitch accepted the scholarship, which is worth $1,000, during a ceremony on May 29.

The WWBC was looking for an individual who embodied many of the characteristics of Yennaco, who was a lifelong Windham resident, business owner, developer, real estate investor and community leader.

Yennaco died last month after a long bout with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease."

Tausanovitch is described by the WWBC as an accomplished flutist, who is a member of the Tri-M Music Honors Society.

She has performed with several music ensembles includign the Salem an Windham High School bands, the Windham Community Band, multiple Windham High School pit orchestras and the Boston Flute Academy.

Tausanovitch also serves as Band President for the Windham High School Concert Band.

The organization was also seeking to award its scholarship to somebody who has demonstrated a concern for their community through volunteerism.

Tausanovitch has championed a music mentoring program for Windham Middle School students.

Aside from her musical work, she has also had leading roles in six theatrical productions, including the portrayal of various Shakespeare characters Juliet, Hermia and Cleopatra. She has also been a member of Soulfledge A Capella group.

In the fall, Tausanovitch will attend the University of Rochester. She is the dauhter of Nick and Jeanette Tausanovitch of Windham.

The WWBC scholarship is administered by the Windham Endowment for Community Advancement.
