The first quarter started with great effort in the trenches for the Grade 5 Wolverines who battled both on offense and defense to try to get ahead in their game against Pelham on Sunday. There was a strong effort by all players with a great punt by Tommy McNeal taking the Razorbacks by surprise, resulting in Windham recovery. They came up short in the first quarter with a score of Pelham - 6 and Wolverines - 0.
The offense came out fighting in the second quarter with blazing speed by Curtis Shattuck and a strong defense led by Joseph Pallaria, Bradley Valo, Zach LeClerc, Nolan Paquette and Westin Lippold. They held the Razorbacks at 6. The offensive surge was led by great blocking from Shane McInnis, Nicolas Palmer, Michael DePamphilis and Braden DeCotis, which allowed the Wolverines to put themselves on the scoreboard board with a TD run by Joey DaSilva.
The third quarter was a battle but they kept their heads in the game throughout the quarter. With continued defense and strong blocking, they fought hard to hold the Pelham offense. Windham pulled ahead with their second TD along with a successful extra point to secure a 13-12 point lead in the third.
Now finding their groove, Windham came out powerful in the fourth with great tackles by Joey DaSilva that resulted in a stripped ball and fumble recovery by Joey. Rocky Heres snatched the ball midway through the fourth for the interception and TD run to help the Wolverines pull ahead. A great Windham offense in the fourth quarter moved the ball well to maintain possession over Pelham for the last few minutes to end the game with a hard fought victory by the Wolverines. Final score: Windham - 19 Pelham 12.
