I-93 Gunman Was Motorist with Broken Ski Rack

A report of a man with a gun on Interstate 93 Thursday had police scouring the area and at least one school considering going into lockdown.

In the end, though, there was no gun – only a broken ski rack.

After about an hour of searching without finding anyone, police called off their search.

Later in the day, they received a call from a man who heard about the incident and believed he was the person police were searching for.

The man explained to police that his ski rack had fallen off his vehicle and landed in the center median. He parked his vehicle, a gray Volkswagen sedan, in the right breakdown lane and crossed I-93 south to retrieve his ski rack. The motorists who called police apparently mistook part of the broken ski rack for a gun.
