One was for the sophisticated engineering and design of a gear driven scenery device built by an elementary level team member.

The other was for the creative integration of several disparate thematic elements ranging from literary characters to fantasy to science and medicine into a cohesive presentation developed by the middle school team.

The award write up said that “the team’s amazing integration wowed the appraisers opening their eyes to the amazingly creative potential for solar energy.”

Two rising star teams also competed, which includes students from grades K-2. These students are not scored for their participation.
