Business Owners to Receive Identity Theft Education
A workshop will be hosted on Nov. 17 at Winmill Equipment.

The Community Development Department will co-host an identity theft seminar next week, and all local business owners are being invited to attend.
The workshop, titled "Identity Theft: When Bad Things Happen to Good Businesses," will be lead by Geremy Ayers of Pre-paid Legal Services, Inc. The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce is a co-sponsor for the Nov. 17 event.
The seminar is free and will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Winmill Equipment.

According to a news release issued by Community Development Director Laura Scott, there are a number of different items the workshop will cover. Local business owners will have the opportunity to learn about the legal side of identity theft, the different types and areas of identity theft, who is at risk, what to do when you are a victim and the importance of taking proactive measures.
The release also explained the importance of business owners being educated on the prevalant crime.

"We all need to learn about the risk and vulnerability for business owners due to today's faststes growing white collar crime," said the relase.
The workshop is part of a free series offered to business owners in the area.
