Man Who Tried to Run Over Windham Officers Sentenced

Grant Hebert was shot by police as he attempted to run them down.

A man arrested last year after being shot by local police was sentenced this week to 4 to 8 years in prison as part of a plea deal, according to the Union Leader.

Grant Hebert, 22, of 7 Tina Avenue, Pelham pleaded guilty to nine charges, including attempted second-degree assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated. He was indicted by a Rockingham County Superior Court grand jury on 12 charges in May.

He was arrested on Oct. 28, 2012 after leading both Pelham and Windham Police on a chase that started in Pelham and ended near a gate on 47 Lowell Road in Windham. Three officers were involved in the incident – Officers Shane Mirisola and Chris Van Hirtum of Windham and Officer Eugene Stahl of Pelham.

All three officers shot at Hebert's vehicle at the end of the pursuit after Hebert attempted to run down the two Windham officers, who were both out of their vehicles.

Hebert was transported to Parkland Medical Center in Derry, where he was treated for a small puncture wound to his lower calf, a small puncture wound to his upper right back, swelling around one of his eyes and fragments of a bullet under his scalp in the rear of his head.

Former New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney reported in December of 2012 that the officer-involved shooting was a legally justified use of deadly force.
