NH Police Out in Force St. Patrick's Day

They will be looking for drunk drivers.

Police in Rockingham County will be out in force this weekend looking for drunk drivers amid St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

The holiday falls on Sunday.

Law enforcement officials said they want people to party responsibly and use a designated driver or call a cab if they're too drunk to drive.

"We managed to not have any highways deaths last March and we hope to duplicate that success this year," said County Attorney Jim Reams during a news conference Friday.

Police will have extra patrols looking for drunk drivers at the following locations this weekend:

  • Route 1 in Hampton, Rye, and Portsmouth
  • Route 28 in Salem, Derry, Londonderry, and Auburn
  • Route 125 in Plaistow, Kingston, and Epping
  • Route 107 in Raymond
  • Route 101
  • Interstate 95

Police will have a mobile DUI processing unit at the Epping Park & Ride location Sunday.

In 2012, 28 people were killed in Rockingham County in fatal crashes—the highest number of any county in the state.

"We hope to do something about those numbers," Reams said.
