Please Support Rob Breton for Windham School Board

Hello Windham Neighbors:

There is a lot going on at our schools these days, and most of it is wonderful. I have toured three of the four schools in the last couple of weeks, and I have seen first-hand how the faculty and staff are providing a quality education to our students every day.  Our students are engaged, excited, and they are learning!
But I have also seen the challenges that our District faces in each of the schools. We have all seen what happened this week at the Golden Brook School, but there are many other things in desperate need of attention at the other facilities as well, except for maybe at the High School.
As the parents and grandparents of Windham school children, we see the pile of issues facing our schools and we want all of them taken care of right now for the benefit of our children and their education.     As taxpayers, we ask, “How are we going to pay for all of this right now?” The reality is that we cannot fix everything all at once, and even if we could, it would be a tremendous tax burden to do so.
I believe that the best way to solve the issues facing our schools is to prioritize them and begin to solve them.  It sounds simple, but as I have told many people, Rome was not built in a day--but there was a day when they STARTED building it. That day to start solving these problems has arrived for Windham.
But I also want to stress that I believe that we must be fiscally responsible in how we go about things. I believe that the majority of the taxpayers in this town are willing to support the improvements we need to make at the schools as long as we do our best to minimize the tax burden that they will have to take on.  This means being creative with the budget, and taking a hard look at the existing facilities to see what can be done to improve them. This is why it is very important that we get to the bottom of the issue surrounding the impact fees that have not been collected despite the fact that new houses continue to be built in Windham. This needs to be rectified immediately. We also need to continue the fight to get the adequacy funding from the State of NH restored. While joining with other affected towns to take legal action is an option, I would first support working with our State Representatives to help them take this issue to Concord to resolve it on behalf of Windham. The impact fees and the adequacy funding are a source of much needed revenue that will help reduce the tax burden we all share.
I’m running for School Board to be a part of the solution, and I'd appreciate your vote on March 11th.

Sincerely,
Rob Breton
