Popular Strawberry Festival Draws First Partner

Tim Barchard's Professional Martial Arts Academy is the first to jump on board for the 2012 event.

It's only late February, but the committee for Windham's hugely popular Strawberry Festival and Book Fair is already rounding up co-sponsors for the June 2 event.

Tim Barchard's Professional Martial Arts Academy, which has two locations in Windham and Derry, has decided to partner with the community event which the committee dubs the "largest" in Windham.

This will be the 29th time that the event has been run, and it serves as the primary fundraiser to support the Nesmith Library.

According to a release from the Friends of the Library of Windham, over 6,000 townspeople attended last year. Taking place at Windham High School, it features entertainment in the school's auditorium, food in the cafeteria, booths with local businesses and activities all around.

The kicker, and the way the festival gets its name, is the homemade strawberry shortcakes.

The festival, according to the FLOW website, is timed with the arrival of the Strawberry full moon.

Sponsorship of the event, according to the release, is tax deductible, and supports Nesmith enhancements, museum passes, annual scholarships and programming.
