Why are you seeking elective office?

I would like to continue the work I have done as a contributor to the success of our schools. While we have accomplished much in the last six years, there is much left to do.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

We must come to terms with our teachers union on a contract for them that benefits the teachers, the district, and most importantly the students. We also must make Special Education a focus. We need to address our athletic facility needs in a way that serves the needs without overtaxing the town. I will work towards solutions for these pressing issues.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I think that we all bring different skills to the table, which is good. Mine is a collaborative approach, leveraging my skill and experience as well as that of other School Board members, administrators, and teachers to be informed for my evaluations of the issues and thoughtful in my decision making. I am willing to lead when my skill set lends itself to the situation, but I am also very comfortable with taking direction from colleagues when it is best to do so. There is no room for ego if you want a successful Board.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)

I’m an incumbent. We have been successful, but I believe there is always room to improve.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform

We need to do a better job as a district communicating to parents as well as taxpayers. We have made strides in this area over the last several years, but more improvement is needed to more effectively communicate and collaborate with the families that make up our district.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have a six year track record on the Windham school board. In that time I have been involved in critical decisions regarding the future of our district, our facilities, the way we do business, and our curriculum. I am confident that I can continue to be part of the team that moves this district forward.

The best advice ever shared with me was …

People want to be heard, so listen to them. You’ll be better for it in the long run, too.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I am a resident of Windham, just like you. I have lived in town for nearly 30 years, and I have always had and will continue to have a stake in the game regarding the education of our students. I understand the needs of our school district, but I also understand the financial impact and I am ever mindful to strike a balance between those two.
