Security Increased at Windham High
Police are taking threat at school seriously even though there's "no danger;" absences tomorrow have been OK'd; $1,000 reward offered.

Police security at Windham High School has been increased due to a threat made last week on a bathroom wall at the school, according to officials.
School officials found what they deemed as “several seemingly innocuous yet concerning messages written on the walls of one of the bathroom stalls” on March 18, 2015, and alerted parents to the issue via email.
In the email, signed by Winfried Feneberg, the Superintendent of Schools, and WHS Principal Kori Alice Becht, officials said while they were taking the incident seriously and police were investigating but, “at this time we do not believe there is any credible threat.”

Over the weekend, Feneberg and Gerald Lewis, the chief of police for Windham, informed parents about a $1,000 reward being offered by the school district for information that would identify the person involved in the threat.
“While we do not consider the threat to be credible, nor cause for alarm, we take it seriously and are investigating it thoroughly with the help every available resource,” the statement said. “The Windham Police Department and the Windham School District each have zero tolerance for threats to the life safety and well being of students and staff in our schools. As a result, we are asking for the help of anyone who has any knowledge or information about who made the threat last week.”

Earlier today, parents were updated that security at the school had been increased this week “due to the specific nature of the messages.” Police security will also be beefed up on Tuesday, March 24. While no one is saying what, exactly, the threats were, or how they connect with tomorrow’s date, parents are being told that any absences will be excused.
“As always, parents have the ultimate decision regarding whether or not to send their sons/daughters to school,” the email stated. “While we believe the school will be safe, all absences tomorrow will be excused.”
Anyone with knowledge about the threats is urged to contact Officer Iworsky at the Windham Police Department at 434-5577 or via email at giworsky@windhampd.com. Information can also be posted via the web at windhampd.com.
