Sharpe: Tax Reform Needs to Happen Now
The last time Congress passed comprehensive tax reform, was in 1986. That's 30 years without any serious effort to modernize our tax code.

Year in and year out, citizens work to produce the necessary capital for themselves and their families. The last time Congress passed comprehensive tax reform, was in 1986. That’s 30 years come and gone without any serious effort to modernize our tax code. How much longer will we condemn our friends, our neighbors, and ourselves to endure the toils of labor, like the legendary Prometheus?
It is time for Americans to keep more of their hard earned paychecks. The goal of tax reform is to strengthen small-businesses, raise wages for workers, and reduce prices for goods Americans use every day.
Our current tax code burdens families and job creators with excessive paperwork and compliance costs, creating unnecessary frustration each tax season. Americans spend 6 billion hours and more than $250 billion preparing taxes each year. That has to change!
Americans at every income level deserve to keep more of their paychecks. Every hard-earned dollar Americans can keep from their paychecks and put towards their own American Dream is a dollar that grows our economy.
That’s why Republicans are proposing to reduce taxes for all Americans at all income levels. Our members of Congress need to work with our President so every day so hard working Americans like us can keep providing for our children and grandchildren for many generations to come.
