Ok…well it’s been quite a crazy year for us all in many aspects. We all grind through each day giving our all professionally and even more so physically in the gym ( AND for many professionally as well)l. The weekend is our “light at the end of the tunnel “, for rest and recuperation but as hard as we push, it’s not quite enough. A Vacation is in order, providing we can get the time off from work and afford it (not easy these days but needed).I’m the first one to admit it’s hard for me to break away for a week. I’m a very “scheduled” person and like keeping things running tight but at some point my brain just needs some rest. After all, I cannot be my best if my brain is cooked. So the decision is made. Time to break out the swim trunks and tanning lotion (SPF level 100….lol).
So the dilemma arises(speaking for myself)as to how am I going to stay on my schedule(eating, working out, etc).Just because it’s a vacation does not mean “go crazy” and letting all your hard work go in vein. We worked hard to achieve our fit body’s and blowing it on crappy “evil” food and alcohol would be terrible. I am more than sure there are many whom DO want to just unwind and not worry about eating clean and that is understandable but for us individuals who wish to stay “on the path” we need some sort of plan to keep things tight (hopefully our butts…lol).
There will obviously be no access to the luxuries of home and some planning will need to be implemented. Most all-inclusive resorts will have a good assortment to fruits and veggies with of course fresh meats, etc. They usually provide you with ample amounts of bottled water as the water situation is usually an issue. I drink a good gallon a day of water and need a good supply at all times, especially in the heat. You MUST stay hydrated. I recommend bringing some powdered electrolyte replacement packets (Propel,Gatorade, etc) to add to bottled water. If you indulging in alcohol (and I don’t advise it) the vitamin/minerals from the water will help with dehydration. Please be careful if you do drink but remember alcohol (of any kind will disrupt fat burning and hinder your progress).Sorry…me being honest.

Another thing I recommend is bringing a good Protein bar and meal replacement powder with you to have instead of eating bad stuff. If you have access to better choices then you be less apt to go for the sweets or grease. Put them in zip lock bags so they can see when checking your bags at airport. Get the pre-packaged meal replacement drinks (MetRx or EAS Myoplex or Labrada Lean Body).Just mix with water of juice if you must. Get a good quality protein bar. Most are loaded with crap. Get one that has NO Soy protein (MOST do….VERY Bad for you) and low on sugars. I recommend “Quest” or “Power Crunch”. They are tasty and not too bad on protein/carb ratio. I have one midmorning or midafternoon but if salad bar is accessible I go for the fresh veggies. Once again it is all about how you want to enjoy your time. A vacation is your time and your personal reward for your hard work.
So if you do decide to go on a well-earned Vacation I say Congrats and enjoy in YOUR own way. Whatever they course you take just get back on it hard upon your return. A week away will do your body and mind a lot of good. You’ll be on that battlefield harder than ever when you get back! Enjoy but be safe!
