Windham Firefighters Dressed in Pink?

They'll be exchanging their navy blue shirts from Oct. 20 to Oct. 26 for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Windham Fire Department will once again exchange their navy blue shirts for pink ones in support of breast cancer awareness.

Local firefighters and staff will don the pink T-shirts from Oct. 20 through Oct. 26 to show support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The idea for the pink shirts originated from the International Association of Fire Fighters, which has asked all local affiliates to participate.

"This is a great opportunity for our department to bring awareness to our community, show support to those close to us, and to provide financial support to local organizations who are involved in this fight," Windham Fire Chief Thomas L. McPherson Jr. said.

The Windham Professional Firefighter’s Local 2915 designed the pink shirts, with a front design being the traditional Maltese cross that reads "Windham Fire – Cares Enough To Wear Pink” With the words “Awareness-Hope-Rescue-Love." The back of the shirt reads "Supporting the Firefighters, Admiring the Survivors, Honoring the Taken and Never, Ever Giving up Hope."
