Windham High School Musical Groups Perform at Symphony Hall
Student musicians selected to play at world-renowned venue
WINDHAM HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL GROUPS PERFORM AT
SYMPHONY HALL
BOSTON, MA — Windham High School’s Mixed and Honors Mixed Choirs, Honors Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band performed at Symphony Hall in Boston on Friday, January 12, 2018. Approximately 130 students in three groups were selected to perform on the same stage that has been graced by luminaries in music and the arts since 1900.
Sheila Cuneo led the choir through“Eatmemen Vuelie,” a Silesian Fold Melody, Gjeilo’s “Ubi Caritas,” and Brahms’ “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place.” Mark Taddonio led Harry Belafonte’s “Turn the World Around” that included a percussion accompaniment.

Mark Taddonio and Alan Dust took the helm for the Honors Wind Ensemble and Concert Band performances.
The Honors Wind Ensemble led their set with “California” by David Maslanka. “Lincolnshire Posy” by Grainger was another highlight of the group’s performance. Honors Wind Ensemble soloists included JP Pallaria on Trumpet, Oboists Shanni Zhou and Kayla Antonucci, Ryan DeBruyckere on Piano, Montserrat Turriza on Piccolo, Jeff Doucette on Bassoon, Isabelle Eterian on Alto Clarinet, Olivia Gomes on Euphonium, Luke Darcy on Soprano Saxophone, Jake Walters on Baritone Saxophone, and Hailey McPhail on Eb Clarinet.

The Concert Band led their set with a rousing performance of Sam Hazo’s “Ride,” followed by Grainger’s “Colonial Song” and Holst’s “Mars.” Bernstein’s “Overture to ‘Candide’” was the group’s finale. Solos by Henry Soroka, Luke Darcy, Olivia Gomes, Malyssa Deranian, Lindsey Brayer, Montserrat Turriza, Shanni Zhou, Hailey McPhail, Jeff Doucette, and Isabelle Eterian were special highlights throughout the selections.
Symphony Hall is considered one of the finest concert halls in the United States and is noted for being one of the best sounding classical concert venues in the world because of its lively acoustics. The Hall has hosted conductors Arthur Fielder, John Williams, Seiji Ozawa, and many others, along with hundreds of classical, country, and popular musicians.
