Windham Resident Continues Support for Jimmy Fund Walk

Jeffrey Domogala and his team have raised more than $56,000 since they first began participating in 2011.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, Jeffrey Domogala of Windham, will walk in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, according to a press statement. He will join an expected 8,500 walkers with the goal of raising more than $8 million for the Jimmy Fund for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The Jimmy Fund Walk is the nation’s largest single-day fundraiser with a 27-year fundraising total of more than $100 million. Since 1989, The Boston Athletic Association has proudly supported the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk and since 2002 Hyundai has been the proud presenting sponsor.

It has been less than a year since Jeffrey lost his wife, Laura, to Stage IV colon cancer in 2014. Jeffrey wants to uphold her legacy by continuing to support cancer research and walking each year in the Jimmy Fund Walk. This year marks the fifth year Jeffrey will be participating in the Jimmy Fund Walk to personally thank the caregivers at Dana-Farber who treated and supported his wife, Laura, during her five-year battle against cancer.

“The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk unites thousands of people young and old—from adults, children, parents, neighbors, colleagues, cancer patients, to cancer survivors—who share a unified goal to cure cancer,” said Zack Blackburn, Vice President of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. “The Domogala’s dedication and commitment to fundraising enables Dana-Farber to focus on cancer care and research.”

His team, Laura’s Liberators, led by his 17-year-old daughter, Ashley, has raised more than $56,000 since they first began participating in 2011. This is their way of contributing for the fight against cancer. Each year, Jeffrey hopes to recruit more people to his team and continue walking in memory of his wife, Laura.
