WPI, Stonehill and Villanova Students Recognized

All students are from Windham.

In the last two weeks, Windham students at three major collegiate institutions have received recognition for their hard work.

Just this week, two students were named to the Dean's List at Villanova University.

Mia Bemi, who is enrolled in the School of Business at the school, was the first to be named.

Justin Hollinger is a junior at the Massachusetts school majoring in Chemical Engineering. He recently completed a project in London titled "Developing E-learning at the British Postal Museum & Archive."

Bethany Storie, a junior Biomedical Engineering major, was in Santa Fe for her project, titled "PUED, Pueblo Sustainability Model."

According to a release from WPI, Hollinger and Storie were among 153 students at the school who completed intensive projects.

"At WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-drive, professional-level project that addresses a problem at the intersection of science, technology, social issues and human needs," the release said.

Professor Richard Vaz, who serves as dean of WPI's Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division, also issued a statement:

The WPI project-based curriculum brings students out of the classroom and their comfort zones and into the global community to apply their knowledge to solve real problems. Students are immersed in all aspects of a different culture, from the way people live and work to the values they hold to the foods they eat-all valuable perspectives for surviving and thriving in today's global marketplace. They also learn the meaning and power of teamwork; make a real and meaningful difference in their host community; and gain a competitive edge for any résumé, or graduate or professional school application.

Junior Christina Tousignant Miller also was inducted to Stonehill College's Honor Society, Lambda Epsilon Sigma, in late April.

The purpose of the society is to recognize and promote scholarship at the college.

Juniors and seniors who have attained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average are allowed to apply for consideration.

We will continue to feature more academic accomplishments of Windham residents as the spring progresses.
