No Lockdown, But Police Respond to WMS and Golden Brook

Police reportedly searched the area near the middle school.

UPDATE (1:45 p.m.): School Business Administrator Adam Steel has told Windham Patch that lockdowns did not take place at Golden Brook School and Windham Middle School today, but police were called to the area.

Steel confirmed that the situation was similar to the report that prompted a lockdown of WMS last week.

A staff member at GBS reported the incident, which Steel said the person attributed to what could constitute gun shots in the woods near the two schools.

An Earlier Story Follows

A report of gunshots has led school officials to lock down Windham Middle School and Golden Brook Elementary School, according to the Union Leader.

Jo-Anne MacKenzie of The Eagle-Tribune just tweeted that police are searching the woods near the middle school after receiving reports of gunshots in the area. She said scanner reports indicate that it may be just a target shooter or hunter.

This is the latest of several lockdowns at Windham schools in the wake of the Newtown, CT school shootings last month.

On Jan. 2, Windham Middle School was locked down following a noise complaint about nearby gunfire. On the Monday after the Sandy Hook killings, police responded to what was reportedly a "loud bang" at Windham High School, and later in the week a Twitter threat was reportedly made to the Windham district.
