A weekend of cool temperatures and scattered showers awaits New Jerseyans as summer weather bids farewell to the Garden State on Friday.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to reach the high 80s on Friday, with an increase in humidity before taking a dip over the weekend.

A chance of showers will return late Friday afternoon into Saturday morning before returning again late Saturday night into Sunday.

Forecasters also expect a cool start to the week, with temperatures mainly resting in the mid-50s to 60s.

Most areas will see less than a tenth of an inch of rain according to NJ.com, though some spots may receive up to two-tenths of an inch.

As cooler weather moves in on New Jersey, a surge in tropical moisture is expected to bring rounds of thunderstorms across much of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic over the weekend, according to the latest AccuWeather forecast.

After much of the Garden State was drenched by a nor'easter last weekend, AccuWeather predicts "a welcome change" in the weather across New Jersey.

Aside from the possibility of some scattered showers, forecasters said the weekend looks favorable for fall activities for much of the Northeast, with mostly dry conditions, comfortable temperatures and a mix of clouds and sunshine.
