Nor'easter Brings Gusty Winds, Coastal Flooding To NJ

While no rain is expected, the nor'easter will still have impacts at the Jersey Shore.

A nor'easter lurking offshore is expected to bring gusty winds and coastal flooding to New Jersey this week, according to the latest forecast.

While the storm remains far enough away that there is no rain expected, there are still impacts in store along the coast.

"While there can be significant beach erosion and coastal flooding, this storm is not expected to bring impacts as significant as the late-September nor'easter," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Adam Douty.

Gusty winds upwards of 35 mph to 40 mph are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Multiple rounds of coastal flooding are also in store.

"Coastal communities could see moderate flooding from Tuesday through Wednesday night," Gov. Mikie Sherrill said. "Conditions are expected to improve by Thursday."

A Coastal Flood Advisory will be in effect for the Tuesday evening high tide cycle in Ocean, southeastern Burlington, Atlantic and Cape May counties. This will run 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

An additional advisory for at least part of the area may be needed for the high tide cycle late Tuesday into early Wednesday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

"From the current forecast, Wednesday evening's high tide cycle continues to be the one of most concern with widespread minor coastal flooding," National Weather Service forecasters said. "In some of the back bays, moderate coastal flooding is possible with Wednesday evening's high tide cycle. Given fluctuating forecasts, did not quite have the confidence to issue a coastal flood watch just yet, but this may be necessary soon."

The nor'easter will gradually move away from the area by the end of the week.

"Another round of coastal flooding is possible Thursday evening with spotty minor to widespread minor coastal flooding," the National Weather Service said. "This high tide cycle is forecast to be lower than Wednesday evening's high tide cycle."
