Incoming Storm Strengthens, Spreads Across NJ: Latest Updates

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible in parts of New Jersey as more of the state is expected to see rain, forecasters said Tuesday afternoon.

A lull in showers is expected Tuesday evening, then things will ramp up again into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The bulk of the rain will mostly be contained to South Jersey and the Jersey Shore, though areas northwest will see some showers too.

South Jersey and the Shore should see up to 1 inch of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. The rest of the state should only see up to one-quarter inch. Some thunder is possible near the coast.

Cape May County and coastal portions of Atlantic County are under a Wind Advisory until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 50 mph forecast.

"East to north winds will range from 10 to 20 mph north and west of the I-95 corridor, and from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph south and east of the I-95 corridor, with the strongest winds right along the coast," National Weather Service forecasters said.

On Wednesday, the same portions of New Jersey will experience scattered to numerous showers and even some embedded thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

There's a chance the rain will linger into Thursday morning as well. But Friday will usher in a dry period, at least through next Monday, National Weather Service forecasters said.
