Freezing Temperatures Forecast In NJ Again: See When

Thursday will be warm, but a big cool down is coming for the weekend, forecasters said.

NEW JERSEY — The up-and-down pattern of temperatures this week will continue, with forecasters expecting temperatures in the 70s in parts of New Jersey before a sharp drop, with lows reaching in the 20s to start next week.

A big chill is coming after several warm days this week, forecasters said. Thursday’s high could reach a comfortable 70 degrees in some parts of the state, but come Sunday it could drop to highs in the mid-40s, with temperatures in the 20s and 30s at night.

“While we will have some low chances for occasional/brief light rain as we finish out the work-week, mainly dry weather will otherwise persist,” National Weather Service forecasters said. “Thursday will turn warm, especially to the south, with high pressure bringing sunnier and cooler weather into the weekend.”

Other parts of the Northeast may see freezing rain, sleet, and possibly snow with storms rolling through on Wednesday and Thursday, but air temperatures will be too warm in New Jersey to allow for any ice and snow, added AccuWeather. However, some showers and overall cloudy conditions could be in store to carry out the week before high pressure returns Sunday.

Most of the region will see above-normal temperatures Thursday, the NWS added — North Jersey will be a bit cooler with some rain, but temperatures in South Jersey are predicted to reach 73.

High pressure from Canada will drop southward across the northern Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast by Sunday, bringing clear skies but also chilly weather, said the National Weather Service.

“Clearer and drier air may then result in chilly overnight lows, possibly dipping into the 20s across much of our region by the end of the weekend,” forecasters said.

Saturday is Veterans Day, and highs are predicted to top out low-to-mid 50s around the region for any flag ceremonies, parades, or other memorials.

Looking ahead to the end of autumn and beginning of winter next month, the strengthening El Niño pattern is predicted to bring more snow than average in certain parts of the state. The first snowfall of the season typically occurs by December 9-10 around North Jersey and in mid-December in the Philadelphia area.
