With temperatures expected to drop into the 30s overnight, the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory in 17 New Jersey counties from 2 a.m. through 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. But the season’s first taste of winter cold will not linger long, forecasters added.

Temperatures will drop into the 30s by Tuesday morning (staying in the mid-40s near the coast), according to the National Weather Service. Areas of frost will develop inland/in surrounding counties, and forecasters said “the typical cold spots” might experience temps near freezing.

“Remember to cover up or bring in your sensitive plants tonight,” forecasters advised.

Tuesday morning will start off cold, with temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s at sunrise before another dry and sunny day develops, with highs in the mid-to-upper 60s except at high elevations.

Monday night’s chill looks to be the only bite of frost we will see in the last full week of October, as the National Weather Service predicts that “conditions will remain dry through the early part of the weekend with temperatures well above normal.”

Expect highs on Wednesday to be in the upper 60s to low 70s, with forecast highs on Thursday in the mid-70s, the NWS said.
