EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The Harlem Globetrotters are headed to New Jersey for a 10-day residency at American Dream in East Rutherford, officials announced this week.

The residency at the New Jersey mega mall will begin Friday, Aug. 16, and continue through Sunday, Aug. 25, the team and American Dream officials said in a news release. During the residency, the team will play 16 games against the Washington Generals.

Details on other activities and special events tied to the residency will be announced in the coming weeks, officials said.

"The Harlem Globetrotters have a long and storied history of ‘firsts’ in its almost 100 years of existence and we continue that tradition by partnering with American Dream (and) creating the first-ever sports residency,” Globetrotters president Keith Dawkins said in a statement. "This residency, and its many commercial extensions, represents another way to reimagine the experience we bring to our millions of fans."

The Globetrotters residency is the latest in American Dream's quest to establish itself as a destination for sports. American Dream hosted the USA Curling National Championships last winter and the National Basketball Player Association’s The Throne in March.

Additionally, officials said several more athletic competitions and events are planned in the coming months and will be announced at a later date.

In an interview with NJ Advance Media, Dawkins said the Globetrotters chose American Dream for its first residency due to a shared objective of bringing families together.

“It’s a way to test out a different model for us,” Dawkins told the publication. “To be able to take the residency model we launch with American Dream and see if it’s something we can replicate with them or in other parts of the globe is really exciting to us.”

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online.
