Legal Weed Sales In NJ Could Get Green Light Thursday: Report

The Cannabis Regulatory Commission is expected to approve the first batch of licenses for those wanting to manufacture weed in the state.

TRENTON, NJ — A state commission on Thursday is expected to OK the start of legal weed sales in the state, a significant milestone in New Jersey's quest to legalize recreational cannabis use among adults.

The Cannabis Regulatory Commission is expected to approve several conditional license applications for businesses to start cultivating and manufacturing cannabis in the state, according to an NJ.com report.

The commission is also expected to approve expanded weed sales at five treatment centers already serving medical cannabis patients, NJ.com reported. If approved, the five centers will be the only facilities selling cannabis initially to both the medical and recreational markets.

Once approved, it will take six to nine months for manufacturers to grow their first crop and build their facilities. State officials expect sales to begin by April or early May.
