Verizon customers across New Jersey continue to experience disruptions to their wireless voice and data services Wednesday afternoon. According to Downdetector, a website that collects user-submitted reports of outages, the Garden State has a high concentration of customers impacted by the Verizon outage.
Verizon acknowledged the issue publicly on Wednesday afternoon, posting a statement on X regarding the service disruption.

"We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers," Verizon said on the social media platform.
Social media posts, particularly in town community boards, were flooded with confused, irate consumers.
Verizon said its engineering teams were actively involved in addressing the problem.

In a follow up tweet an hour later, Verizon said: "Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today's service interruptions. Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible."
Other areas where significant outages were reported include New York City, Philadelphia, Miami and Atlanta.
Frustrated customers flooded the Downdetector chat room for the New York metro region with gripes that they had been without service for several hours.
Downdetector showed that Verizon customers began to report issues with their service around noon. Reports appeared to peak at more than 175,000 by 12:30 p.m. — but still remained elevated later into the afternoon, sitting at nearly 57,000 as of 3:30 p.m.
Impacted users said their phones were in “SOS” mode or had other no signal messages. In cities like New York, alerts were sent out warning that the outage may disrupt 911 calls — urging residents to try landlines and devices from other carriers, if available, or visit a local police or fire station in-person in case of an emergency.
A handful of outage reports for other carriers also bubbled up on Wednesday — but companies like T-Mobile and AT&T quickly confirmed online that their services were operating normally. Both suggested that their customers may be encountering issues contacting people with Verizon's service, however.
