Tropical Storm Forecast Changes In NJ: See Latest Updates
The tropical storm system that dropped 20 inches of rain on the Carolinas is heading north. Here's how it could affect New Jersey:
NEW JERSEY — As a tropical storm system heads north, we could be looking at a wet latter half of the week in the Garden State, according to the latest forecast.
That storm dropped up to 20 inches of rain in parts of the Carolinas Monday. While New Jersey isn't going to get nearly as much rain, you can still expect it to be soggy here. Which could be beneficial, as most of the region hasn't seen rain in more than a week.
Tuesday night will see about a half-inch or less of rain in South Jersey, the National Weather Service said. The highest amounts will be along the coastlines and locally higher amounts are possible. Plus, Tuesday's full moon invites the possibility of coastal flooding, and a coastal flood advisory is in place from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Wednesday across South Jersey. There's also a high risk of rip currents across the Jersey Shore.

After that, forecasters aren't entirely sure what will happen. The storm from the Carolinas could combine with another developing storm, the National Weather Service said. Depending on how that storm tracks, the amount of rain could differ, forecasters said.
If it stays close to the coast, New Jersey could see more heavy rain Wednesday. If it tracks further offshore, there could be enough dry air from the north to keep the rain offshore, the National Weather Service said. That latter option seems to be more likely, according to forecasters.
