New Details In NJ President's Day Weekend Storm: See Latest Forecast

The forecast for a storm that could impact New Jersey over the holiday weekend is becoming more solid. See the latest.

Details are becoming clearer for the President's Day weekend storm that could impact New Jersey, according to the latest forecast.

While temperatures are warming, New Jersey could see snow changing to rain or just rain Sunday into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

A map from AccuWeather shows South Jersey getting all rain, much of Central and North Jersey getting rain/snow and the potential for snow in the northwestern corner of the state.

"While there is not a large area of Arctic air to the north, there is enough cold air for some precipitation to be snow and ice," AccuWeather Senior Director of Forecasting Operations Dan DePodwin said. At this time, the greatest risk for any snow and ice will be from the mid-Atlantic into southern portions of New England.

The most likely scenario, National Weather Service forecasters and AccuWeather forecasters agree, is that the storm will stay to our south and will be weak enough to not cause major impacts. As of Thursday, there is a 30 percent to 70 percent chance of precipitation from north to south Sunday into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

However, a track where the storm turns northward could result in a stronger storm.

"If this were to pan out, dynamic cooling due to robust forcing for ascent along with just enough cold air could result in accumulating snow across much of the area excluding most of the coast," National Weather Service forecasters said. This option has a much lower probability, though.
