New Storm Threat Looms As Snow Squalls, Arctic Blast Returns To NJ

Rounds of snow showers and squalls could hit NJ this week, setting the stage for a stronger storm in time for Valentine's Day.

Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of six more weeks of winter seems to be coming to fruition in New Jersey with rounds of snow showers and squalls in the forecast this week as Arctic air sets the stage for another winter storm, according to the latest forecast.

Round one starts Tuesday night as a system could bring a dusting to one inch of snow in parts of South Jersey Tuesday into Wednesday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Round two begins Friday when a strong clipper system pushes through the region with an Arctic cold front, according to the National Weather Service.

"It's too early for any specifics on this system, but a period of light snow and/or snow squalls are probable," forecasters said Tuesday morning.

Following that will be the return of dangerously cold conditions. Temperatures could be as low as 15 to 25 degrees below normal, according to AccuWeather forecasters.

Lows will range from the single digits to 5 below zero, according to the National Weather Service. These frigid temperatures, similar to the cold experienced in January, are expected to continue through February.

This will set the stage for round three, another storm around Valentine's Day, AccuWeather forecasters said.

"That storm has the potential to bring snow and ice to much of the northern half of the country from Montana, Wyoming and Colorado to New Jersey, New York and New England in the neighborhood of Feb. 12-15," AccuWeather Senior Long-Range Meteorologist Joe Lundberg said.

More details on that storm will become available in the coming days.
