NJ City Named Among Best Food Scenes, Coastal Small Towns: Report

A New Jersey city received triple the awards when it was named among the top 10 in USA Today's recent contests.

NEW JERSEY — A New Jersey city is one of the best coastal small towns and the best small town food scenes in the nation, USA Today said last week in its 10best Readers Choice Awards 2024.

The ongoing online contests allow readers to choose the top 10 winners from a list of 20 nominees in several nationwide categories, including food, lodging and destinations. USA Today said an expert panel makes the nominations before voting occurs.

New Jersey residents may recognize few victors, including Cape May, which makes an appearance in two categories. A township made the Best Main Street list.

"This seaside town in the southernmost part of the Cape May Peninsula is a popular destination that's quieter and cleaner than its more boisterous cousin to the north, Atlantic City. Families love the free Cape May County Park and Zoo, as well as free summer movies on the beach, while couples might enjoy a sunset cruise, strolling through the various gardens and parks, and getting pampered at the local Cape May Day Spa."

Best Small Town Food Scene, No. 10

"Cape May, New Jersey, is the nation's oldest (and arguably most charming) seaside resort town. It also has an incredible food scene, with most cafes, restaurants, bars and specialty food shops located in walking distance of each other (and the Atlantic Ocean). From upscale dining destinations to tiny casual breakfast spots, Cape May offers plenty of delectable and memorable meals."

New Jersey also placed in the awards for:

Best Main Street

Haddonfield, No. 10

"The main street in Haddonfield, New Jersey, is part of the colonial Kings Highway that connected Boston, Massachusetts, and Charleston, South Carolina. Lined with well-preserved historic buildings that showcase Colonial and Victorian architecture, there are a variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants, and breweries to enjoy, including the Indian King Tavern, where the New Jersey Legislature met in 1777."
